“Ask and You Shall Receive” is DEAD

Day in and day out, when times get tough you will hear individuals tell others to just “ask and [they] shall receive”. This quote disturbs me from the very beginning of the quote. “Ask”? Why are you asking? Why do you have to ask for an opportunity, for the promotion, for the reward, for the gift, for life? A couple of things come to mind when an individual suddenly begins to ask for things.

The first thing that hits me is that individuals shelter a weak mindset. Asking for things shows weakness, depending on the situation. I'm not talking about some circumstances, but face it, not everyone asking is at their bottom dollar and living on the streets. When you begin to ask, you show you aren't strong willed or strong enough to boost your mindset and chase after what you are asking for. Nothing will ever be handed to you. Stop asking and start making shit happen. At the end of the day, you probably won't receive what you are asking for if you just sit on your ass. Scratch that, you WILL NOT receive what you are asking for if you don't get up and freaking put in the work.

Second off, you should not have to ask for an opportunity to arise. Opportunities don't just fall into your lap unless you were born into a damn wealthy family. Face it, for 99% of people such as myself, that didn't happen. You have to go out and make things happen. You have to make opportunities happen, and you sure as hell can't make them happen sitting on the couch whining and asking for shit. You want a damn opportunity? You woke up this morning didn't you? Not everyone did. You were blessed with another day, another moment, another breath, another chance. That to me is opportunity enough to go out and make something of yourself.

Third off, just by emphasizing the quote, “Ask and you shall receive,” in modern society, individuals have weakened the mindset and work ethic of this nation as a whole. People are now asking, for shit they do not need. You have people not being grateful for what they have, asking for unnecessary material items. Now the materials and resources they do have that they are ungrateful for, individuals around the world in third world countries, are starving and dying over because they actually need these items to survive.

When it boils down to the purpose of the quote,”Ask and you shall receive”, it was intended to be a form of faith between you and a superior being/worshiped deity. The quote itself does not phase me, due to the origin, but it is the context and situations in which the quote is referred to in modern day society that shows the downfall of man's work ethic during this era. Take charge of your life. Make opportunities arise. Wake up each morning with the mindset to make shit happen. Don't wait for a door to open, bust through it at full speed chasing after what you believe in. You are responsible for your own life, your own dreams, your own goals, and your own legacy. Make it happen and stop freaking asking.
