The Imaginary
Perfection
During every brutal repetition, of an immense
amount of weight, deep down in your mind you are peeling away the
present image of your body. You constantly sculpt out the figure you
have drawn in your head. This glorious illusion, draws your
subconscious to accept nothing less than obtaining this appearance. A
gift? Or a curse? A mindset? Or a sickness? We each strive for
better. We each are in the process of constructing a flawless legacy.
An empire, with a pre-determined illustration of the final
destination.
I, for one, had this perception of life. I
compared my physique, performance, stage presence, or any factor in
an athlete’s career, with NPC and IFBB Pros. Nineteen years old,
just being introduced into the industry, and I got so frustrated at
the way I looked. I felt inferior for so long. My agenda was driven
to look like an Olympian. Comparing yourself to these athletes may
lead to sculpting a mindset to achieve a body you may never
genetically obtain. You continue to grind, pursuing the path to be
the next Arnold. To be the next Zane. The next Coleman or the next
Cutler. Why? If you were meant to be the spitting image of that
person, you would have been born them.
The key to any athlete’s success is not
molding themselves into the spitting image of originality. The key to
success is bringing the best physique that you yourself can obtain.
The fact is, you will never look exactly like anyone else. But the
beauty of this is no one will ever look exactly like you. As you
continue to chisel away each layer of past and present, don’t get
caught up in the image you have fixed in your mind for your future.
Chase after your goals and dreams. Spend every breath fighting for
what you believe in. But make sure what you are striving for, is a
better you. A dominant you. A final product of your blood, sweat, and
tears. And don’t let anyone take away the unique qualities that
make you, you.
