Best Chest Building Exercise Guide - Weighted Dips

Weighted Dips –
Number One Chest Builder

By Hussien Jabai

I wanted to take the time to write an article regarding my number one recommended chest building movement, the weighted dip. Now, exercises are all preference, and should only be performed if the individual is completely health, the movement doesn't cause any irregular stress or strain on joints, and the individual is taught the proper mechanics and execution. All the info provided is no going to be science guys, this is just my 2 cents on why I choose the exercise and my personal opinions.

Muscle Activation
Pectorals (Major/Minor)
Anterior (Front) Deltoids
Triceps Brachii
Abdominals (stabilization/isometric)
Trapezius (stabilization/isometric)

Pros
Stabilization – From a stabilization and balance standpoint, weighted dips are a far superior method of chest activation while also allowing the body to free-roam through space. The addition of that freedom requires a higher demand on stabilizing minor muscles, and more concentration on the muscles being utilized.

Core Development- Reflecting on the pro listed above (stabilization), the core is the main factors with trunk stability during body weight, calisthenic, free weight movements. It places high demands on the abdominals, creating an isometric tension, and enhancing the bracing abilities of the core.

Tricep Overload- Due to the bar position, depth/range of motion, and increased tension during elbow flexion/extension, the triceps are granted a higher demand of overload. With this overload, an individual places more stress on the elbow joint, allowing more tricep development and progression.

Calisthenic/Athletic- The weighted dip movement is one of the best athletic and calisthenic based exercise, utilizing the pectorals while moving the body through space. It requires individuals to move their entire body weight (or reduced weight with an assistance machine / band/ partner). Simply being able to move yourself through space for reps, yea I like that...

Pectoral Activation & growth- During the range of motion of the dip, the pectorals are stretched beyond the motion of a bench press, allowing more muscle fibers to be stimulating. With the stretch of the movement, the lifter is also in an optimal position to press more at an angled movement path, allowing more chest activation and less anterior deltoid (although it still requires plenty from the delts, just not as much).

Cons
Weight Reduction Restrictions- One major problem with the weighted dip, is effectively performing the exercise without any assistance. If you are just now performing, or just built the strength to perform the movement, then you may need some sort of assistance device to aid for more repetitions. Now, there are machines at commercial gyms that assist you, and make it easier to perform the movement. Say those aren't available, you must resort to a resistance band tied to the top of a rack, then placed on the bottom of your feet to help you. Now if you don't have a band or just hate the band method, you need a workout partner to hold your feet. Now even that can be an issue, especially if you workout alone.

Deep range of motion- Now, I mentioned how you have a farther stretch on the pectorals than the bench press. Well, with this stretch comes an increased risk of injury. Since most individuals don't control the eccentric phase of movements, most tend to strain a pec or hurt their elbows over a period of time. Also with the increased range of motion, you have a higher stress on the rotator cuff, shoulder joint, and other muscles/joints. Make sure to watch your depth, go light(er), or concentrate on the eccentric (lowering) phase.

Risk Of Injury
Risk of injury is always a popular topic when it comes to deciding whether one should actually partaking in performing any given exercise. As explained above, performing the weighted dip comes with multiple risks of injury, but what effective exercise wouldn't? Make sure you stretch plenty, don't “overtrain” the pecs or shoulders (allowing full recovery), and don't just jump into heavy sets. I always start out with some sort of assisted stretch using resistance bands. Then work into doing push-ups, then my first set of just bodyweight for reps. Whatever weight I have chosen for my topsets for the day, I will divide that weight into thirds or fourths, and perform a single set with the addition of each divided weight load, until I have reached the determined topset. This will allow me to warm up my muscles/joints, allow my muscles to get use to the tension, provide myself with mental preparation, and just overall rack up more volume (because volume is the best).

Optimizing Pectoral Activation & Growth
Through out performing the weigh dip movement, you will find there are a couple of key factors toward influencing optimal pec activation. The first thing to consider, is controlling the eccentric phase of the movement and pausing at the bottom. Let your body transition through the full range of motion (without over stretching the pecs). Now, as you start to press, begin to press with the triceps but also squeeze the bars together, forcing a higher level of tension on the pecs. Once you have locked out, continue to forcefully squeeze the pecs! Simply changing the way you approach the movement will completely change the effectiveness and your results!

Entrepreneur Development: #4 Top 10 Principles of Being a Successful Entrepreneur

Top 10 Principles of being a Successful Entrepreneur

By Hussien Jabai

Last article of the Entrepreneur Development series discussed how to utilize social media to promote your services as an entrepreneur. This article of the series will be discussing my personal top 10 principles of being a successful entrepreneur that everyone listening should master or at least be aware of. The following will list and discuss those 10 aspects that you better become familiar with:

Time Management
Just because you own your own business, doesn't mean you don't wake up freaking early and go to bed after every one else. Yes, you get the privilege to manipulate your schedule based on priorities and circumstances, but you have to be able to manage and program a lot of your time around building up your business in some form or fashion. End of story.

Endless Ambition
Most individuals strive when they hit rock bottom. You are at your breaking point, so you become hungry as hell right? Well shit, why aren't you fighting like that day in and day out? You should always have that spark of ambition lit under your ass continuously and always chase after the dreams and goals you have set for yourself.

Balance Health, Fitness, & Sleep
So you want to be an entrepreneur in which you devote your soul to becoming rich af right? Wrong. First off, if you are only worried about money then you are in it for the wrong reason and need to change your focus and priorities. Second, you can't be such a slave to your work that you don't take the time to improve your physical, mental, and emotional health. Make sure to take time to work on your diet, hit the gym atleast 3-4 times a week (or home workouts), and make sure to get plenty of sleep. The better you feel, the better the work output. The more rest you get, the more energy and focus you have. End of story.

Lonely Road
Being an entrepreneur means long nights (or even all nighters) working on projects, upcoming promotions, or organizing events. You won't have much time to devote to going out and socializing with friends. Even family has to understand that you can't just drop what you are doing and go hang out. Not many people will stick around because you have priorities, which is your work, so you might find yourself striving without a support system, It happens. Focus on you and your future. We all want someone to lean on or friends to be there for you, but now a days in society, if you don't go out and party then you are weird and not worth being associated with. Lame, I know. Oh well.

Multiple Avenues
With any business, especially in the very beginning of development, you can't rely on one single source of income. You must venture toward multiple avenues of business, but each avenue needs to tie into whatever field or audience that they target. For instance, most trainers or coaches venture into supplement lines, apparel, online content, etc. They don't ONLY train one on one. Now, I know some people that is all they do, but going back to endless ambition, you don't want to just sit back and be happy with 5 face to face clients and that's it. Same in any industry or profession.

Lose the Ego
Many times, we hold egos that sometimes we may not even be aware of. You have to understand and realize that there is always someone more wise, more experienced, and more powerful in your field of work. You have to be able to drop your ego at the door and learn from others. Realize that you can always gain from listening to the minds of others. Make a point to not block out what doesn't come yourself.

Building up a network
Partners in crime are important. And no, I don't mean partners in which you actually go participate in criminal acts with. If I didn't say that, I'm pretty sure ya'll might take that too literal. Anyways, you need a network of individuals who share the same vision, and build each other up. You need a group of like minded entrepreneurs that are ambitious and strive to help the team become successful. No one ever made it in this world by building themselves up and knocking everyone else down. That's not how this works. You need to expand your horizon by networking with other individuals in the industry, begin collaborating and sharing ideas, or even team up and build up affiliating businesses.

A Step Ahead
Always be planning out your next 5 moves. My two cents, is to never be on your last planned out move in that specific moment. You should never be in a situation where you have to sit and think and be like, “Shit, what's next?” Never in your life should you have to reevaluate if there is a dead end to your business. Always move forward, but know exactly in which direction you are going. If you are on your last thought out move, you are already far behind your competition. End of story.

Stop Sleeping
No, I don't literally mean don't go to bed at night. When I say stop sleeping, I mean to open you eyes and stop moving through life without purpose and drive. “Every one dies, but not every one lives.” We spend most of our life just going through the motions and not exploring what it means to find out true purpose and chasing after our ambitions and aspirations. Stop sleeping, and start living.

Customer Service
Start making your customers an agenda, and just watch how fast your relations and business grows throughout the years. Stop focusing so hard on what you can get in return, and give all you have toward providing your audience with true value. Stop charging you customers or audience for every bit of dang information they ask for. Go the extra mile to make sure every participant, audience member, or customer knows you would do anything you can to make sure they are satisfied with your work. Granted, you are a business, so certain services require hire and payment, but not every freaking move or relay of info needs a price tag on it.

Entrepreneur Development: Social Media Presence

Entrepreneur Development
Social Media Presence
By Hussien Jabai

What is freaking up everyone?!
Last article of this Entrepreneur Development series discussed the concepts of Marketing Your Services, which you can view if you CLICK HERE. This article is geared toward your Social Media Presence and how to attract your target audience. I will talk about 5 of my top key points toward developing an elite level outreach when aiming for a specific audience and selling a specific product/service.
Quality over Quantity
Over and over, countless times I see individuals post non-stop about any kind of service, blog, videos, or whatever you can think of. Is that okay to keep your audience updated? SURE! But most of the individuals that view your posts or follow you might just skip half of what you post because they are just going to be like...”Oh my gosh, he posted his third post of the day. Oh hey look it's another add just like the other one.” Trust me, when I first started that's how I was. Post so often that people had to notice right? WRONG! People get annoyed, low interest, and your work loses value. Take the time to make a long post, in full detail, that gives your audience something of high value. Of quality. MAKE THE AUDIENCE MISS YOU! Which sounds weird. But have you ever watched a series, and it takes a week for the next episode to come on. All that week you are dying to see what happens next? Exactly. Provide content for your viewers, let them miss you a bit, then they will be begging to see more content from you. Then, you will know your viewers value your time and content. If they don't stick around, they didn't really care anyways, they just wanted free shit.

Give without asking in return
As a business view point, it's like, “You are kidding right? Giving, and just no one buying in? Are you wanting to go bankrupt?” Which, I can see your concern. BUT, you don't have to spend anything other than time, so it's of no initial cost to you. Time is valuable, so make sure the content you give holds some kind of purpose. For me, I provide FREE programs, peaking charts, demonstration videos, etc in which individuals know I will do my best to provide them with as much good content as possible without trying to just sell them crap. But, you become a credible source. If anyone wishes to look for a program, the individual that knows my site would consider sharing my information to help their friend. Your service or content spreads through referral. They get programs or info, and you get publicity and traffic. It's a win win for everyone.

Build up value
Now, we talked about giving without asking in return, which leads into building up your value with the individual or potential customer. For instance, the more high quality content that you provide, that actually helps the viewer in some form or fashion, makes you more and more credible through their eyes. They start to view you as a credible source, and start using you as a reference when speaking to others. If someone they know has a question, you simple view the credible sources site, contact that source, or refer the individual to goto any of that source's content to retrieve an answer. If you have noticed, you still are not simply asking for some sort of service. It is a constant build of value. Only when the individual is asking for some sort of info or help which falls into the lines of what service you provide, is when you turn around and say, “Hey, well I do offer such and such on my site for free, but if you wish to take things to the next level and need direct work, I do happen to provide training or coaching services that may interest you. If you wish to gain more pertaining toward that route, simply let me know and we can set up a time for a consultation to see how I can assist you further!”
You didn't ask for anything! You simply provided them with an option. The rest is up to them!

Be unique (find your niche)
Be unique sounds so simple. I mean we are all individuals right? But when it comes to developing a business and designing the look and feel to it, we tend to lean toward what we know or what has worked for others. Which is fine, possibly. But, to stand out, simply take a bit of what you have learned from EVERY avenue and source you deem credible, then add some sort of unique spin to the cluster of ideas. Make it your own, with your own motto, own audience, own agenda, own feel to the marketing stand point. Can you get business as a carbon copy of a successful business? Sure. But are you going to stand out or move high up in the business world? Hell no. Be unique. Be yourself.

Interact & respond
Alright, so the last little bit I want to talk about is probably the most time consuming, yet the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of social media presence. INTERACTION! Boom! It's responding to comment, to emails, posts, and whatever you deem as someone's initial way of outreach. It could be commenting on posts of individuals that don't know you, but simply admiring their work or congratulating them on what they have achieved. It could be just starting up a discussion about your cats and love for dang animals. It could be WHATEVER! But the goal is to always engage in conversion and get to know people. If people know you, they interact with you, they soon feel comfortable with you, then they seem to trust you. END OF STORY. Engage in meaningful conversation. Yes, meaningful. And every talk about how you can assist them further by just being their as ears to help them through situations or struggles.
Regardless of how epic you think your service might be, social media presence is key toward a successful business endeavor. Just because you are amazing at what you do, doesn't mean little Jimmy down the block has even heard of you. Shit, doesn't mean little Billy in the next state over even knows that you provide online coaching! So make sure you have a great social media presence in which to provide viewers and supporters with the best experience possible of what you have to provide.
Become a guide.
Become credible.
Become a resource.

Entrepreneur Development: Marketing Your Service

Entrepreneur Development: Marketing Your Service
BE WALKING PROOF!

By Hussien Jabai

Looking back at my last article post, we discussed the principles of diving in to the business world
and the start of making moves. This article of the Entrepreneur Development series will pertain to a few tips toward marketing your given service, particularly personal training. I will be discussing concepts mainly orientated toward personal trainers because that is my current avenue and I have more experience in that in the business realm. The last thing I would ever consider is business advice in crap I have no clue about or experience in. Here are 5 of my tips for marketing yourself as a personal trainer:

Personality
You are saying I have to have a great body AND personality to go with it?! That is exactly what I am saying. People don’t give a single care in the world how good looking you are unless they feel comfortable with your presence and enjoy being around you. Humor and being outgoing will take you a long way in the fitness industry. Be humble, kind, and also go the extra mile. Make sure to smile and give off a positive vibe to every potential client you face (AKA every human on earth).

Marketability of Product
Is your service even something worth marketing? Can it be marketable? Depends on what kind of training you provide, the demographic of the area, the financial stability of those around you, and the expense of your product. The last thing you want to do, is market a crappy training camp, with absolutely no structure, at $100.000, 000 per person, in a low income neighborhood. Make sure you have a solid product or service, aiming for the right audience, with a set price that is very fair, if not cheap, for your consumers to want to purchase it or give it a try since it is so cheap.

Confidence
“Psh, Hussien… I have confidence in myself. I know I look good bro.”
This means absolutely crap. Confidence is key when you have faith and belief in your product or service. Stand by your work day in and day out. Own what you do. Have confidence in your ability to transform the lives of others, and know that they won’t be able to find anything like your results from any other trainer. BE IRREPLACEABLE!! End of story.

Look the part
Okay, so you need personality and confidence, but you also need to resemble what you sell. You are the face and image of your brand. You are walking proof that you can make shit happen bro! Train and work your ass off to show that your programming works and that they can achieve similar results if they bust their butt just like you. Be the testimonial. Don’t just preach it.

Don’t chase a sale
The last damn thing you ever want to do is worry about every sale that walks in. Don’t walk up to every person starting out with defining your service and asking for a client. Immediately the individual labels you as a salesman, and begins to ignore everything you said. No one will believe your words from then on, because everything you say then becomes bias. Make sure you simply help gym goers and give out advice. Tend to their needs and make them feel at home. Be as much of help to them as possible, educating them, and when the time comes and they decide that they need a trainer.. well guess who is there waiting? YOU! Unless you are over somewhere else chasing another client.
Got it?

Alright guys and girl, that was my 5 main points for marketing your service as a personal trainer. I hope this Entrepreneur Development series helps out you ambitious little leaders! We will all make it in the end, and MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPTAIN!

Entrepreneur Development: Dive in and Start Making Moves

Entrepreneur Development
Dive in and Start Making Moves
By: Hussien Jabai

What is UP?! So I get asked from fitness enthusiasts on how I got my personal training certification and how I have been applying it to my life. I am now a personal trainer at 4 different facilities in 4 different towns, two different boot camps in two different towns, and an online coach. I am not anywhere close to being “successful” according to my own mindset and standards, and continue to strive for better. I wanted to take the time to provide ya’ll with an entrepreneur development blog series to share with ya’ll what I have learned from personal experience or through the means of hearing it from someone else (who is credible).
So today we are going to talk about starting your entrepreneur journey, which means simply DIVING IN AND GETTING STARTED!
So here are a few tips on how to MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPTAIN:
1. SEEK ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES
Before getting started, you need to think of every dang possible source of opportunity available to you. Even if you think of something that you may not have access to, start playing on ways to receive the funding or access to those resources for your business. There are endless opportunities before you. Every dang product, good, or service has an infinite amount of markets and niches in which you can make a huge impact in that industry. You have to find every single opportunity, find what you can work with, and go from there.
2. FIND YOUR NICHE
As you are going through and venturing through all of the different avenues of opportunity before you, you must then start to gather statistics on which markets are working for your business and which ones are not. Start gathering why, then begin to specialize in certain fields that you seem to have an advantage in. No one wants to do something they such at, so start mastering the things you were born to do and make it happen!
3. TAKE THE RISK
You will discover that in business, the only way to actually get anywhere in life is to take risks daily. This means investing all you have into the business you believe in, and branding your name alongside your product/good/service. The only way to become successful, is to take chances in opportunities, and sometimes that can means risking it all. Could mean giving all you have and not knowing if you will receive anything in return. It could means spending years and years, maybe even your entire life, working to building and develop your business with the chance of it possibly never even becoming anything. That, my fiends, is the risk of becoming a successful entrepreneur. ALL IN OR NOT AT ALL.
4. STAND BY YOUR WORDS
Once you pursue the route of the all mighty “entrepreneur” because social media has made it out to be the cool thing to do, every ounce of sweat and blood you shed chasing after the best business on the coast, or every word that came out your mouth promoting the best service in the nation, or every post uploaded to social media advertising the best product to hit the shelf… must be claimed and supported by yourself through thick or thin. Stand by what you believe in during tough times and good times. If you thing your product/service/good is worth the risk stated above, then it is a matter of time before you will see the light. But until then, work your ass off and continue to pursue your dream.

Those were just 4 tips on how to DIVE IN & START MAKING MOVES as an entrepreneur in a world saturated with individuals pursuing the same path. Find what sets you apart.
